Wetland Restoration
In March of 2020 we were approached by a kind couple within Downingtown Borough, asking for guidance with their vast acrage of virgin wetlands. Upon doing a site walk, and providing a proposal for the maintainence, we are all eagerly ready to begin this projet in October.
Kerr Park Project
As Restore Our Roots (ROR) launched back in the spring of 2019, the first project brought to our attention was improving the stream adjacent to Sky’s the Limit Playground. The project was proposed to us by the Downingtown Parks and Recreation Commission as a way to get our feet wet and to make our presence known to the community. Kerr Park has experienced intense flooding over the years and standing water has become an issue after most rainstorms. The Parks and Recreation Committee was looking for a way to reduce the standing water issue as well as making the stream travelling through Kerr Park look nicer.
Hershey Trees Project
The Hershey Trees were planted in Downingtown circa 1921 by John Hershey. A self-taught horticulturist, Hershey began experimenting with permaculture in an effort to alleviate financial burdens on farmers spending too much on livestock feed. There are still quite a few remnants from Hershey’s original nursery scattered throughout the borough that require protection from the several different developer’s that threaten their existence.
