Postponed to November! Walk in Penn Woods Events: Stretch with Trees + Tour Kerr Park Planting

October 1, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 2:30 pm

Note: we have postponed this event to November- stay tuned for further details!

Walk in Penn’s Woods evolved from a simple statement made by landowner Ruth Park to a receptive audience in 2016: “I do wish we could ALL get out into the woods for a walk one day!” That idea, spoken with such passion, birthed a partnership of forest organizations and woodland owners, motivating people throughout the state into the woods on the first Sunday in October.

Since 2017, the Walk in Penn’s Woods partnership has been working to offer Pennsylvanians a statewide day of walks in the woods on the first Sunday in October. These walks provide an excellent opportunity to get out, have fun, and learn about Pennsylvania’s forests, to see forests in new ways, and to understand and appreciate the many values we hold for the woods.

Over 1,000 people attended each of the first two events, with over 60 walks offered around the state; the 2019 event featured 85 walks, including more than a dozen “walk and roll” wheelchair-and stroller-friendly sites, with nearly 1,000 participants on a rainy, chilly day.

ROR will be hosting a few events on this day that you can join at Kerr Park:

10am- 11am: Mighty Forest Qigong w/ ROR member, Tara. Qigong is an ancient form of cultivating energy, your life force. Through a series of gentle movements and breath, we will connect with nature’s energy to bring peace and centeredness. No prior experience necessary. Good for all ages, however children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the playground, then we will walk to our nearby spot on the grass. Wear comfortable clothing in which you can do simple stretches.

1pm-2:15pm: Walking tour of the trees in Kerr Park. With the ROR team as your guide, learn about the magical trees, old and new, of Kerr Park. We’ll share history of the plantings, review the species and their benefits, as well as how the park is faring after the large ash tree dieoff.

No RSVP required for either event.
